My Wedding Make Up 24th May 2010

20 Nov

The Lime Crime Centrifuschia competition I’m running, made me feel like finally sharing a few photos from my wedding, which was on 24th May 2010, at Oulton Hall, Leeds. I wore the Lime Crime Centrifuschia lipstick, along with a combination of airbrushed foundation and Too Faced eye makeup, by the lovely Kimberley Brook. These photos were taken my the amazing, India Hobson who is a fantastic photographer, working on fashion, art, portraits and wedding photography.

Beautiful day, that I will remember forever. Maybe I’ll share some more photos on our wedding anniversary?

Review: Lime Crime Lipstick Centrifuchsia and Countessa Fluorescent

22 Sep

Ok, here’s another Lime Crime review because I’ve been meaning to do this for ages, but have only recently gotten into reviewing beauty products properly. I’ve had my Lime Crime lipsticks for over a year and purchased Centrifuchsia especially for my wedding. You have to love the Lime Crime styling, the website, the packaging, the product names, everything is mega fun.

Here’s the products in their full glory, featuring holographic unicorns on the purple pink tubes, how could you not want to own one of these?

And here are the two colours that I own, the pale one is Countessa Fluorescent and the darker one is Centrifuchsia (my fave!) You’ll love how these lippies smell too, they are deliciously scented of cocoa butter, making them smell and feel extra luxurious.

And of course, you’ll want to know about the pigmentation of these lipsticks since they are at the higher end of the price spectrum! Only one slick and with both shades you get a opaque, strong colour. Centrifuchsia stains your lips it’s so strong and Countessa Fluorescent isn’t as strong, but still only needs one layer. Here they are swatched straight from the stick. Centrifuchsia is the dark shade and Countessa Fluorescent is the pale shade.

Both finishes are slightly glossy, your standard lipstick texture, the cocoa butter content makes them nice and moisturising when on. I find that Centrifushsia has the greatest staying power of the two as it works like a stain, Countessa Fluorescent will need reapplication and would be best applied over primed lips.

This is me wearing Centrifuchsia on both my lips and my cheeks, the creamy texture of this lipstick makes an ideal product for blending into your cheeks and I just love the colour! As you can see, this colour isn’t so terrifying on, it’s warming and I reckon it suits a lot of skin types. This applies very well straight from the stick, although for tidy lines I always neaten up with a lipbrush.

And here is Countess Fluorescent, certainly a trickier shade to wear, it looks best on warmer skin tones I think, so I’m not 100% convinced about it on me at the moment, I like it more in the Summer, but I’m so pale I think a pale lipstick drains me a little, what do you think? As mentioned previously, this one works best over primed lips and doesn’t stay put as long as Centrifuchsia. Here’s the EXTREME close up!

I’ve recently discovered that these colours actually mix quite nicely, so to warm up this colour I layered it with Centrifuchsia to find a third colour which I think is a nice middle shade, what do you think?

Hope you enjoyed my post, this is still new territory for my blog, so please let me know how you think I’m doing with my beauty reviewing!

Review: Lime Crime Magic Dust in Twilight

21 Sep

Todays review is from another of my favourite brands, Lime Crime! Created by the beautiful, creative Doe Deere (you should check out her blog, it’s amazing) this American line currently offers lipsticks and eyeshadows (Magic Dusts) in a range of outrageous, fun colours inspired by candy, unicorns and fairy tales. It’s unlike any other range I’ve ever seen, super fun and top quality too. The American site does ship to the UK and the service is amazing, however, you can also find their products in the UK at Space NK.

Anyway, this review is about the Magic Dust in Twilight which one of my lovely friends bought me as a gift at Christmas last year.

Here it is in it’s truly gorgeous packaging, I’m a sucker for some pretty packaging, it’s such a simple thing but makes it feel more special and exciting. All Lime Crime make up features the shiny Unicorn logo. This was an awesome gift as well because it’s so tiny, when it was wrapped up it was the cutest package and very mysterious!

The Twilight shade of the Lime Crime Magic Dust is a classic purple, with lots of iridescent and purple particles in it. All of the Magic Dusts are loose powders (similar to Barry M Dazzle Dust) and come in a sifter pot so that you can moderate how much comes out. Mine’s been in my make up bag though, so a lot has emptied outside of the sifter bit.

Used with a dry brush, the Lime Crime Magic Dusts apply very sheer, which isn’t a bad thing as this makes the product more versatile, this one looks lovely sheer as it would just add a lovely glittery sparkle. For the full effect apply wet or with a primer for an intense colour. Here is what they look like swatched…P.S This is my first ever swatch, I hope it’s useful!

Now before you see these photos, let me remind you that I’m no pro when it comes to apply eye make up and I’m in some serious need of some practise! But I always think you need to see the product in the place it was intended to fully appreciate it. These were applied with a damp brush.

Have you tried any Lime Crime make up? What’s your favourite? Mine is Centrifuschia lipstick.

September Beauty Wishlist

3 Sep

I’m so excited for Winter, as I love Winter colours and clothes and being snuggly warm with plenty of layers. But, annoyingly for me it’s suddenly gotten ridiculously hot again, today was horrendously sticky and hot! I’m never prepared for hot weather and my body simply doesn’t cope well with it. Today I’ve been in London and had a fantastic work related meeting with Hayley of London Beauty Queen Blog, we had Afternoon Tea at Laduree in Covent Garden and it was marvellous, great meeting and a fantastic opportunity to meet a lovely lady, I’m really excited about working with Hayley in the very near future on plans that will, for now have to remain secret and professional!

Anyway, to the point of my blog! Here’s a few beauty products I’m lusting after for September, my September Beauty Wishlist!

1. Pretty much the entire Illamasqua Theatre of the Nameless collection, which was release for online purchase on Friday 2nd September and will be in stores next week! I’m particularly interested in the new rubber finish nail polish, the purple shades are delicious! I also adore the look of the lipstick used in this photo, although it turns out that it’s one of the Intense Lipglosses, I’m not usually a lipgloss lady, so will be looking forward to seeing if this product will convert me!

2. Lime Crime’s limited edition Lip Noir collection launched this month, featuring three limited edition shades, exclusive to their online shop. The styling on the photoshoots are amazing too. I really want the Glamour 101 shade, a classic semi-gloss red, as modelled by the stunning Mosh! The other shades are Styletto, a re-released matte black and Chinchilla a semi-gloss grey with lilac undertones.

3. Barry M Cosmetics Foil Effect Nail Paint, this is a new release and if it’s as amazing as it sounds, I really would like both colours, but after being severely unimpressed with their Nail Effects Product, I’m not sure if I’ll rush out and buy this! Has anyone tried it yet?

I’m sure there are many more things I could include, but I don’t want my blog to be massively long! I’ll update when I spot something else that I think I should share with you!

Cult Status Red Lipsticks

21 May

So you would probably all agree that a red lipstick is a must have for any make up bag, and especially important for a vintage fan! Over the last year I’ve come across some brands that many people may not have heard about, who produce amazing quality and lovely packaging. Here are my top Red Lipstick finds, from some brands that you might not of heard of before.

Rockalily Makeup is new brand, run by the lovely Ree Ree Rockette, who I interviewed a few months ago. This is her company that she has been working hard on bringing to the market. Her range currently only sells red lipstick and is strongly inspired by the vintage, Rockabilly scene. The classic black packaging is classy and sophisticated and there is a shade to suit every person.

My next lovely red lipstick is from my make up love, Lime Crime, run by the beautiful Doe Deere, this range is colourful and inspired by fairytales, rainbows and unicorns. The packaging is the initial draw, as it’s lilac with holographic unicorns on it! Most of the ranges colours are quirky colours like pastel green, yellow, blue and hot pink. However in Retrofuturist you get a classic cherry red lipstick, which smells like cocoa butter, it’s moisturising and stays on for ages! It looks pinky in the tube, but as you can see from the swatch it’s a delicious cherry shade.

Lipstick Queen by Poppy King, which is available in Space NK stores in the UK is another range that is inspired by history. This range is extremely good quality, which is represented in it’s higher price point. Check out the 90 percent pigementation range, which is entitled Sinner, this range is amazing, great matte colours in a range of delicious reds.

If you’re looking for a truly authentic red lipstick, check our Besame Cosmetics, a range where it’s entire design has been taken from historic designs and formulas. Check out this classic red, in it’s beautiful vintage style packaging, it’s complete red lipstick heaven.

And finally, I can’t complete any make up blog without mentioning, my current obsessions, Illamasqua, whose Encounter red lipstick is my latest purchase. I reviewed this in a earlier blog post. But here’s the website image. This is a true vintage style matte red, with great staying power. Annoyingly, I can’t find a good photo of that shade, so check out my review here.

New Lime Crime Lipstick Colours!

16 Feb

Oh the glee! Lovely make-up brand Lime Crime, brought to us by the lovely Doe Deere and team are releasing three new lipstick colours in March!

  • Mint To Be: A pastel mint green shade, like pistachio ice cream almost?
  • Coquette: A nude shade Lime Crime style, strawberry ice cream colour!
  • New Yolk City: A banana, egg yolk yellow, bizarrely appealing!

Ooooh they all look delicious, makes me think of a box of Laduree macaroons, don’t you think? Or an ice cream parlour! Which would you have? Are you brave enough to sport them?

Paintbox Lipsticks

7 Jul

I’ve previously spoken about colourful lipstick brand Lime Crime and thought I would expand on this topic as I’m aware that bright coloured lipsticks are very ‘in vogue’ at the moment. Buying a new lipstick is a great way to update your look, or to simply just make yourself feel a bit more glamorous or exciting.

Here’s some recommendations and tips about bright coloured lipsticks.

Some great brands for bright colours are Lime Crime, Nars, Illamasqua and of course, Mac. However if you are not wanting to spend a lot of money because you just want to experiment I would recommend Barry M lipsticks, they have a fabulous range of bright colours and are easily picked up in local Boots or Superdrug, they are often on special offer and only cost a few pounds. They are also cruelty free, which is always an added perk! They are also a British company, which is amazing to see. So two more reasons to give them a go! (Their nail paints are also amazing, but that is to be saved for another post)

Barry M have a range of pinks and reds, but the ones to look out for this season are orange and blue! Blue maybe for the more adventurous of us, but orange looks great on many different people, just remember to keep the rest of your look simple if you are going for full on colour on the lips. If you are not feeling so brave, why not try a baby pink, coral or lilac?

Once you have experimented with your cheaper lipstick, why not move on and try a higher quality brand? You will find the colours are more vibrant and generally that they last longer. I would strongly recommend Lime Crime, not purely because of the lovely purple packaging with holographic unicorns on but because they feel lovely on and last well, the colours are gorgeous too. I have Centrifushia and Contessa Flourescent, both of which also work nicely blended on my cheeks as a dewy blusher. I cannot decide which one to go for next though, maybe Cosmopop or Airborne Unicorn? Here’s all the current swatches:

I’m sure many of you are wondering how to make your lipstick last longer? This can particularly be a problem with brighter colours. Here’s a few tips of mine, that I have gathered from various sources:

  • Make sure your lips are exfoliated and well moisturised, I sometimes make a scrub from a little olive oil and granulated sugar and use this to gentle slough away dead skin, I then apply a good moisturising lip balm, such as Carmex, Blistex or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream if I’m lucky! Let this soak in a bit before applying lipstick.
  • Using a primer or failing that, some foundation on your lips will create a blank canvas for your lip colour, although personally I usually skip this as I don’t like feeling too caked in make up.
  • Use a lipliner (if you have one in the same colour!) this will create a barrier around you lipstick to help prevent bleeding, if you don’t have a lipliner use a lip brush and outline your lips with a little of your chosen lipstick instead.
  • I always use a lipbrush to apply so I can be more precise, this also allows me to build up the colour slowly, to achieve the desired effect.
  • Blot your lips with blotting paper or a little tissue paper and re-apply, this will build up the staying power of the lipstick.
  • To make your lipstick more matte and as a way of fixing the colour, use a soft brush to apply a translucent powder (or baby powder) onto your lips through a layer of tissue, to filter out the larger particles.

Hope this is helpful to someone, enjoy the colours!
